The Project | Jury Comments

Modestly compact and strikingly spare, Fiskoist responds admirably to the town’s rich Icelandic history. The small addition provides a semi-covered outdoor seating area for 12 and a custom made bar – a unique pedestrian extension from the street – which is sandwiched between two commercial buildings. The project incorporates playful references to the local ice fishing shacks in scale, formal disposition and materiality. Fiskoist is constructed of reclaimed and salvaged timber, primarily spruce and fir beams, which will gracefully weather over time.
